Are you up for A Daring Book Challenge?

*This is a sticky post, scroll down for newest posts*

Have you read The Daring Book for Girls? My review is here.

At the end of the book is a long list of great books for girls to read like Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitshugh, Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren, Call of the Wild by Jack London, The Giver by Lois Lowry and Black Beauty by Anne Sewell. I thought reading some or all of them would make a great challenge so I got permission and here we are!

You have 3 tracts to choose from plus you can choose to join me in trying to read them all.

1. Read one book from each category from June 15/08 to February 15/09 (6 books in 8 months)
2. Read any 9 books from the list from June 15/08 to June 15/09 (9 books in 12 months)
3. Read one whole series from this list starting June 15/08. If it contains up to 10 books, by June 15/09, if 20-30 books, by June 15/11 and for the Trixie Belden series and Nancy Drew series by June 15/12.

PLUS

4. Want to work on reading them all? It's an ongoing challenge so take all the time you need. You can do this and still do one of the above.

GIVEAWAYS!!!!

Andrea Buchnanan and HarperCollins were nice enough to send me 3 copies of The Pocket Daring Book for Girls: Things to Do by Andrea J Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz to give away!

I'll be giving them away throughout the next couple of months or possibly a little longer. However, I can only send them to Canada unless you are willing to pay for the postage yourself. It would be approximately 10-15 Canadian Dollars.
I'm sorry but I just don't have the money to send internationally at this time.

To be eligible, you have to sign up for one of the first three tracts. If you just sign up for the ongoing challenge, you will not be eligible.

A few more general guidelines for the challenge:
1. Crossovers with other challenges are allowed.
2. Audiobooks are allowed.
3. For the ongoing challenge, books you've read in the past count, you don't have to re-read them.
4. For the first 3 tracts, all books read must be read AFTER June 15/08.

If you have any questions, please ask in the comments.
Signups start June 1/08

First Book Drawing: The Pocket Daring Book for Girls

NOTE: Read this even if you don't live in Canada!

From those 10 who have signed up so far for this challenge, I used random.org to choose a winner. In the rules I said this contest was open to residents of Canada only unless you were willing to pay postage, however, we've had a donation of postage to the US from someone who wishes to remain anonymous. So this drawing was open to ALL participants.

The winner is... Jessica who does not have a blog. If I can't get a hold of her or she doesn't live in Canada or the US then I'll award the book to the runner up.

So Jessica, congratulations and send me your full address to callista83 AT cogeco DOT ca so I can send you your prize. I cannot guarantee I will send it out right away but will try to do it before the end of July.

Please Note: You can STILL sign up for this challenge. There will be two more drawings for the book. The next drawing will be August 1.

Sign Up Here

Okay signups have officially started!
Please read this post well FIRST.

To sign up, just post a link to the post on your blog that has your choices in the comments. Every week or so when I get online I'll add to the participants list on the side bar. Make sure you specify what tract you are doing and if you are doing the ongoing challenge as well. Don't sign up until you've made a post and give me the DIRECT url to the SPECIFIC post. I don't have time to hunt.

If you don't have a blog however and still want to join in, just tell me what you're doing in the comments and be sure to check back in to tell me how things are going.

I haven't decided yet but perhaps once a month I'll make a post and if you've read any books in that time period for this challenge you can post a link to your review or tell me in the comments what you thought.

The first drawing for a free book will be July 1, 2008 so make sure you are signed up by then to be eligible. Perhaps you could put in your post or comment if you are canadian or international but willing to pay postage so I know who is eligible for the drawings.
